About Jue Jue’s Safe Space

Jue Jue's Safe Space Organization was established in 2019 as a Facebook page and has been operating as a non-profit organization in the United States since 2021. Jue Jue Min Thu, the founder of the organization is a social worker who values social justice and works for the individuals who are struggling in society, particularly those with mental health issues.

Jue Jue’s Safe Space provides private training sessions for those in need and also collaborates with other organizations to provide mental health services and training. We also conduct various activities to promote mental health, such as group counseling. The organization has partnered with six other organizations and has provided training to over 90 women on mental health and group counseling to over 50 women. We have also conducted various activities to support other women-led organizations in Myanmar, to create a supportive and mental health-promoting environment. In addition, the organization has been providing psychoeducation, mental health-related talks, and counseling to individuals who are mentally distressed due to various societal, economic, and human rights issues. We have been conducting training sessions with American-certified Curriculum once or twice a month. In these sessions, participants who are passionate about social justice and mental health in society are awarded scholarships. The organization has provided training to over 200 people on mental health and has conducted various programs such as the Free Mindfulness Bootcamp and Mom Supports Group. Moreover, we have delivered free campaigns aimed at promoting mental health awareness and support among communities in collaborating with organizations like the East-West Center.

The goal of Jue Jue's Safe Space is to assist everyone in their life journey towards genuine inner peace by providing the necessary support and acknowledging that mental health is an essential part of everyone's life. We also acknowledge the diverse experiences, ages, genders, orientations, abilities, religions, and life perspectives within the community and strive to provide mental health support to those affected by various societal pressures.

Jue Jue's Safe Space aims to improve the mental health of Myanmar's indigenous people and to contribute to peace in Myanmar by supporting mental health and well-being. The organization is committed to providing a safe space for diverse good practices, clinician knowledge, and best practices related to mental health.

At Jue Jue's Safe Space organization, we pride ourselves on our commitment to promoting mental health awareness and support. Each year, we host a series of highly informative and impactful conferences, bringing together a diverse group of knowledgeable professionals from various roles. These conferences serve as a platform for individuals to gather and study a wide range of topics related to mental health, all in one convenient location.

In 2022, Jue Jue's Safe Space held the first annual Mental Health Conference, titled "Renewing Hope". The conference was held at a crucial time in Myanmar, emphasizing that mental health is important and good for everyone, and it should be prioritized in every community. The conference discussed the mental health of the Rohingya people, not only them but also the challenging mental health conditions of the LGBTQ+ community. The discussions were led by various knowledgeable educators and clinicians.

We plans to hold these conferences annually in different topics. In 2023, the conference will be held under the theme "Building Community Through Healing". This theme is in response to the ongoing conflicts in Myanmar, aiming to provide continuous support for those affected by the conflicts. The conference aimed to address the mental health of the Rohingya community, indigenous people, and discuss coping mechanisms for national, social, economic, and health crises. The discussions are held according to the needs of the rooms, with leaders from various communities.

Furthermore, in the darkest times of Myanmar, among the most oppressed and most vulnerable, self-harm and suicide are most common. Therefore, Jue Jue's Safe Space has launched a 24-hour mental health service, the Suicide Helpline for those who want to heal themselves. The aim is to provide immediate assistance to those who are contemplating suicide and to those who are in a state of continuous self-harm.

For the program, we have been conducted Intensive Suicide Prevention Training three times a week using the U.S. curriculum. The organization has trained a total of over 1,654 people and issued certificates to 839 people. Moreover, we invite those who have attended the training to participate as volunteers. Volunteers are given a free Continuous Education Session once a month and two supervision sessions per month. As of now, in the Suicide Prevention Helpline, from Batch (1) to Batch (6), a total of 383 volunteers are working. Within a year, they have managed to counsel over 56 people.

Moreover, we are working on technological aspects to make mental health services more accessible to everyone. Jue Jue's Safe Space is a place where the mental health of Myanmar's indigenous people can be nurtured and improved.
